When the family bought Scandelaia in the early 1990s, the house was a ruin and the terraces were completely overgrown. Over the past thirty years, the family embarked on a significant restoration project not only of the house but also of the terraces. The majority of the terrace walls have been restored in a traditional way using local craftsmen while the undergrowth has been beaten back to restore it to its current glory. While originally the terraces would have had vines along the walls and wheat growing down the middle of each terrace with the olive trees on the edge, the family have focused on the olive trees pruning the existing ones and replenishing with new trees.
Our terraces stretch over 25 acres but we are currently only harvesting around 12 acres and we are looking to add the remaining olive trees over the next couple of years. On a good year we hope to produce 450 litres making this a very exclusive single estate annual production.
